Casey Wins Wisconsin FFA Veterinary Science Proficiency

June 16, 2023 Proficiency

The 2023 Winner in Veterinary Science is Brooke Casey of the New London FFA. This proficiency is sponsored by the Wisconsin FFA Convention Partners.

In 2019, Brooke started as a kennel attendant at Wolf River Veterinary Clinic. In 2021, Brooke was promoted to being a veterinary assistant. Brooke’s responsibilities with this role include working with veterinarians to conduct examinations and providing medication to dental and surgery patients before procedures. Furthermore, Brooke assists in drawing blood, giving vaccines, taking radiographs, conducting ultrasounds, and much more. In addition to all of this, Brooke shadows a large animal veterinarian at United Veterinary Clinic to continue to develop her knowledge in the field.

Brooke’s advisor is Crystal Retzlaff.

We would like to recognize the state finalists in Veterinary Science:

Second: Kelsey Hardy, Dodgeville

Third: Brandi Oechsle, Fennimore

Fourth: Evie Whitaker, Iowa – Grant

Fifth: Emma Bangart, Mashfield

Casey will find out this summer if she is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Brooke will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in November.
