Duch Named Wisconsin Star in Agricultural Placement Finalist

June 16, 2022 Star Award

Claire Duch of the New London FFA is a Wisconsin Star in Agricultural Placement finalist.

The Star in Agricultural Placement award is given to students that are working in a variety of job opportunities in the agricultural industry.

Claire works on her parents’ beef farm where they raise Red Angus, Simmental, Chiania, and Shorthorn club calf and purebred show heifers. When she first started, she was only able to do simple tasks such as cleaning the barn or feeding the cows and calves. Now, she has learned to thaw out frozen waters, lift 80 pound feed bags, and is trusted with important managerial decisions such as changes to feed rations, when to move cows to new pastures, and when cows should be bred. In addition to these tasks, she does anything else around the farm that needs to be done.

This fall, Claire will be attending the University of Wisconsin — River Falls majoring in Agriculture Education and Elementary Education. After college, Claire hopes to take over the family farm and continue it with the next generation.

Claire’s parents are Eric and Jill Duch. Her advisor is Ms. Crystal Retzlaff.
