Esselman Wins Wisconsin FFA Swine Production Placement Proficiency

June 16, 2023 Proficiency

The 2023 Winner in Swine Production Placement is Claire Esselman of the Clinton FFA. This proficiency is sponsored by the Wisconsin FFA Convention Partners.

Since 1974, Claire’s family has been marketing and showing Berkshire pigs, making it only natural that Claire would have her family enterprise as her SAE. Claire has been able to learn the entirety of the swine industry including production, nutrition, and farrowing practices. Claire continues to develop her knowledge in swine health, such as how to use supplements to prevent deficiencies or how to pull piglets in the case of difficult labors. Claire’s management of the herd ensures that her family is able to sell quality pork locally, across the country, and even internationally.

Claire’s advisor is Kelsey Kueter.

We would like to recognize the state finalists in Swine Production Proficiency :

Second: Emily Zukowski, Menomonie

Third: Vaida Goplin, Whitehall

Fourth: Jenna Gunnick, Clinton

Fifth: Macy Cross, Pardeeville

Esselman will find out this summer if she is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Claire will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in November.
