MADISON, Wis. (May 22, 2023) – The Fennimore FFA Chapter was named the state winning Dairy Cattle Evaluation & Management Career Development Event Team. Team members include Matthew Winch, Welsey Winch, Nicholas Needham and Rose French. Their advisor is Shelby Mitchell. Garrett Ulness from the Valders FFA was named the top individual. His advisor is Jeff Griffey.

Participants of this contest judge six classes of dairy cattle, present oral reasons, evaluate pedigrees, complete a linear evaluation of five dairy cattle, and engage in sire selection.

Fennimore will now represent Wisconsin FFA in competition at the National FFA Career Development Events to be held in November in Indianapolis, Indiana during the 96th National FFA Convention. The Dairy Cattle Evaluation CDE is sponsored on the state level by Associated Milk Producers, Inc. The National sponsor is Allflex Livestock Intelligence.

The Dairy Cattle Evaluation & Management Contest helps develop skills in dairy cattle selection and herd management within its competitors. All Career Development Events engage students in developing their communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills to promote future career success.
