The 2023 Specialty Crop Production proficiency winner is Jacob Gibbs of the Amherst FFA Chapter. This proficiency is sponsored by Chippewa Valley Bean.

Jacob helps to operate a sunflower farm that has been in his family for over 150 years. Jacob’s role on the farm takes many forms including repairing machinery, planting, and even researching on how to increase yields. Additionally, over the past couple of years, Jacob has increased his responsibilities in equipment operation by now disking, cultivating, and combining the sunflower field. Jacob’s dedication ensures that his family is able to provide a high quality product that satisfies customers.

Gibbs will find out this summer if he is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Jacob will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in November.
