The 2023 Dairy Production – Placement proficiency winner is Courtney Glenna of the Amery FFA. This proficiency is sponsored by Lely North America.
Courtney has been assisting on her family’s 130 cow dairy farm and showing dairy since she was only ten years old. At the beginning, with the assistance of her dad, Courtney completed simple jobs such as cleaning barns, milking cows, and feeding heifers. Now, Courtney completes tasks independently and serves in a more managerial role. In this capacity, Courtney follows appropriate farm protocols, assists with calving season, keeps accurate records, diagnoses and treats diseases, participates in field work, and much more. Futhermore, Courtney takes great pride in having a large role in reproductive management of their families’ herd by being responsible for sire selections and genomic testing.
Courtney’s advisor is Derrick Meyer.
We would like to recognize the state finalists in Dairy Production Placement:
Second: Verena Bartel, Waupaca
Third: Lindsey Montgomery, Waupaca
Fourth: Bethany Magdanz, Weyauwega-Fremont
Fifth: Eli Nett, Weyauwega – Fremont
Glenna will find out this summer if she is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Courtney will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in November.
