Huchthausen Wins Wisconsin FFA Specialty Crop Production Award

June 14, 2022 Proficiency

The 2022 Specialty Crop Production proficiency winner is Leah Huchthausen of the Stoughton FFA Chapter. The Specialty Crop Production Proficiency is sponsored by Chippewa Valley Bean.

In 2019, Leah began working on a tobacco farm where she was able to experience the entire harvesting process of tobacco including the planting, topping, hoeing, cutting, stringing, loading, hanging, and stripping. Leah’s interest in harvesting tobacco grew, and in the winter of 2020, she began growing her own crop from seed.

Leah’s advisor is Mollie Biermeier.

We would like to recognize the state finalists in Specialty Crop Production:

Second: Alyssa Woodley, Black Hawk

Third: Jacob Gibbs, Amherst

Fourth: Adelynn Kienbaum, Edgerton

Fifth: Jenna Gianoli, De Soto

Huchthausen will find out this summer if she selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Leah will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October.
