The 2023 Winner in Equine Science – Placement is Madison Kwak (K-wok) of the Menomonie FFA.This proficiency is sponsored by the Edward J. Okray Foundation, Inc.
Madison’s SAE includes taking care of and training horses on her sister’s farm. When Madison first started, her responsibilities were limited and always required supervision. Now, Madison serves as the head herd manager, where she is in charge of all aspects of the horses’ care, requiring Madison to make important decisions such as determining feed rations, spotting and treating ailments, and cleaning out stalls. Furthermore, Madison is responsible for preparing the horses for shows which she does through riding and grooming practices.

Kwak will find out this summer if he is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Madison will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in November.
