Schmoldt Wins Wisconsin FFA Veterinary Science Award

June 14, 2022 Proficiency

The 2022 Winner in Veterinary Science is Abigail Schmoldt of the Slinger FFA. The Veterinary Science Proficiency is sponsored by the Keith A. Gundlach Endowment.

Abigail sought out many job shadowing opportunities at local veterinary clinics before her time as a Veterinarian Assistant at Woodview Veterinary Clinic. As an assistant, Abigail has learned how to run 4Dx Snap and VetScan tests that evaluate blood for heartworm, and tick-borne diseases. Since July 2020, Abigail has over 1,000 hours under her belt and has mastered taking care of boarding animals, pulling vaccins, starting a fecal floatation, maintaining clinic cleanliness, and providing curbside service during COVID.

Abigail’s advisor is Katelyn Dei.

We would like to recognize the state finalists in Veterinary Science:

Second: Brooke Casey, New London

Third: Emma Bangart, Marshfield

Fourth: Brandi Oechsle, Fennimore

Fifth: Rachel Yelk, Poynette

Schmoldt will find out this summer if she selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Abigail will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October.
