MADISON, Wis. – The Shullsburg FFA Chapter was named the state winning Floriculture Career Development Event Team. Team members include Elsie Ennis, Ella Woodworth, Hailey Duerst and Faith Burgess. Their advisor is Jennifer Russell. The top individual was Gwen Albers of the Denmark FFA. Her advisors are Mary Handrich and Marty Nowak

The Floriculture Career Development Event requires students to identify plants, judge flower arrangement and solve problems. Additionally, participants demonstrate skills in flower arrangement, propagation, and the preparation of floral and foliage products for sale.

Shullsburg will now represent Wisconsin FFA in competition at the National FFA Career Development Events to be held in October in Indianapolis, Indiana during the 95th National FFA Convention. The Floriculture Career Development Event is sponsored on the state level by the Wisconsin FFA Foundation Annual Fund. The National sponsor is Fifth Third Bank.

This event builds skills that are important to careers in greenhouse and field production management, garden center and floral shop and design management. All CDEs engage students in developing their communication, decision-making and teamwork skills to promote future career success.
