Upmann Wins Wisconsin FFA Swine Production – Placement Award

June 14, 2022 Proficiency

The 2022 Swine Production Placement proficiency winner is Braxton Upmann of the Shullsburg FFA. The Swine Production Placement Proficiency is sponsored by the Collegiate FFA, UW-Madison.

Working on his family farm, Upmann Farms, Braxton assists with raising approximately 4,000 hogs from wean to finish each year and is in charge of feeding the hogs twice daily and checking the herd’s health to prevent disease outbreaks. Because of the limited labor, Braxton has had to learn a wide array of responsibilities including how to properly administer vaccinations, sanitize the barns, and deal with plumping and welding issues to troubleshoot many of the farm’s repairs in a more timely manner.

Braxton’s advisor is Jennifer Russell.

We would like to recognize the state finalists in Swine Production – Placement:

Second: Vaida Goplin, Whitehall

Third: Claire Esselman, Clinton

Fourth: Jenna Gunnick, Clinton

Fift: Emily Zukowski, Menomonie

Upmann will find out this summer if he is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Braxton will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October.
