Walter Wins Wisconsin FFA Diversified Livestock Production Award

June 14, 2022 Proficiency

The 2022 Winner in Diversified Livestock Production is Megan Walter of the Granton FFA. The Diversified Livestock Production  Proficiency is sponsored by Collegiate FFA, UW-Madison.

Megan’s interest in livestock increased immensely when her family decided to add pigs to the farm, and later she was able to convince her parents to get market lambs and a small herd of beef cattle. In the beginning, Megan’s responsibilities were feeding calves and scraping the milking area. Now, she is responsible for the care of all the different species of livestock that the farm has including, milking, feeding, administering vaccination, dehorning, castrating, breeding, care of newborn animals, working with show animals, and more.

Megan’s advisor is Katie Reider.

We would like to recognize the state finalists in Diversified Livestock:

Second: Paul Loosen, Slinger

Third: Bethany Magdanz, Weyauwega-Fremont

Fourth: Ashley Johnson, Weyauwega-Fremont

Fifth: Verena Bartel, Waupaca

Walter will find out this summer if she is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Megan will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October.
