Rachel Weyland of the New London FFA is a Wisconsin Star Farmer finalist.

The Star Farmer Award recognizes students in production agriculture working with entrepreneurship programs, ranging from animals to crops.

Rachel raises and manages Simmental cattle, an operation which she started after her family had to sell their dairy herd. She was passionate about getting more involved with breeding stock and has grown her herd in size to 12 head, learning more about heat detection, breeding, and raising calves along the way. Rachel says that one of her biggest accomplishments was winning Grand Champion Purebred Simmental Heifer at the Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association Summer Spectacular.

Rachel plans to attend UW-River Falls for Animal Science. 

Rachel’s parents are Randall and Stacy Weyland. Her advisor is Ms.Crystal Retzlaff.
