Henry Koerner of the Big Foot FFA is a Wisconsin Star in Agriscience Winner!
With Henry’s Supervised Agricultural Experience, Henry wanted to find solutions for hot issues in a variety of AFNR pathways. In regard to the plant science realm, Henry analyzed the effects of natural antimicrobials on plant tissue growth, finding that the cultures with honey and no added antimicrobials produced the most growth. Additionally, through his biotechnology research project, Henry concluded that the enzyme solution with the highest concentration was able to extract the most DNA from an onion. During the four years of Henry’s SAE, he has had numerous other research projects, spanning from comparing the effects of various milk types used in the cheesemaking process on protein presence to utilizing poultry feces bacteria as a bioremediation agent of oil.
In the future, Henry plans to attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities to obtain a degree in Agriculture Education.
