Sophie Koehler from the Chippewa Falls FFA Chapter was elected to a year of service as the 2023-2024 Section Two State FFA Officer during the 94th Wisconsin FFA Convention. Her advisors are Jeanna Burgan and Caitlin Foster. Her parents are Jill and Clifford Koehler.
Koehler is currently a student at the University of Wisconsin—River Falls, studying Pre-Veterinary Medicine with a major in Animal Science and an emphasis on meat animals. Sophie hopes to become a large animal veterinarian, with a specialty in either radiology or poultry. In addition to working with animals professionally, she would like to raise a family while providing a final home for older animals within the shelter system.
To prepare for these goals, Koehler has developed a wide scope of supervised agricultural experience projects consisting of job shadowing at a local veterinary clinic, working as a kennel assistant and raising layer hens, while also working as a recycling attendant. As a student at UW-River Falls she has been involved in Swine and Poultry Club and the Poultry Judging team.
“FFA is not just a club, it is a family,” says Sophie, who made it a goal as chapter president to keep her chapter close and make it a safe place for all members to thrive. As a State FFA Officer, she hopes to be able to do the same for young members across the state.
